{"id":50,"date":"2008-05-15T13:24:19","date_gmt":"2008-05-15T12:24:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uhlfelder.com\/blog\/?p=50"},"modified":"2008-05-21T21:52:28","modified_gmt":"2008-05-21T20:52:28","slug":"week-39-may-14-to-may-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uhlfelder.com\/?p=50","title":{"rendered":"Week 39 &#8212; May 14 to May 20"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><u>May 14, 2008<\/u>.\u00a0 Back from Mallorca and we have about five weeks before we&#8217;re going to be home.\u00a0 I thought I might get a boat captain&#8217;s license, checked it out at the Escuela and it&#8217;s not possible.\u00a0\u00a0 There is a lot to it and not enough time.<\/p>\n<p>Thinking about water, they got a lot here while we were gone (as we did in Mallorca) and that may have gone some small distance in solving the water shortage problem they have here.\u00a0 Here are some of the things they have done &#8212; shipped in water on boats from Terragona and emptied the fountains (and put up expensive signs about why they are empty).\u00a0 They are going to build a desalination plant, pipe in more water and other things &#8212; all of this takes time, money and energy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><u>May 15, 2008<\/u>.\u00a0 Our dog, Rocket, returned from his vacation at the dog trainer&#8217;s house.\u00a0 The dog trainer returned him a bit late since he had to check into the hospital for an emergency operation for an ulzer, undoubtedly brought on by Rocket.\u00a0 Rocket is a hard dog to train, but certainly not worth getting an ulzer over.\u00a0 Anyhow, the dog trainer, Emilio, is married and his wife took good care of Rocket while Emilio recovered.<\/p>\n<p><u>May 16, 2008<\/u>.\u00a0 We&#8217;re going out to dinner this evening.\u00a0 Unfortunately, since dinner is at 9:30 (that&#8217;s the normal dinner time here) we will end up eating two dinners.\u00a0 I would say that the thing we like the least about Spain is the schedule.\u00a0 All of Europe is much more &#8220;normal&#8221; with dinner times at 7 ish and lunches around noon.\u00a0 Here, they have lunch at 2:00 for two hours and then dinner after 9 at night.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><u>May 17, 2008<\/u>.\u00a0 We had a very nice meal last night, getting home at 1:00 a.m.\u00a0 On the way home, the streets were busy with people going to &#8220;discos&#8221; that seem to appear at every corner.\u00a0 It all seems so &#8217;70s.\u00a0 Today the boys managed to stay in the apartment the entire day.<\/p>\n<p><u>May 18, 2008<\/u>.\u00a0 Today was a running race put on by El Corte Ingles that is supposed to be the largest running race in the world with over 56,000 people.\u00a0 Anne and David wanted to add to the number, Joshua didn&#8217;t, so I stayed with Joshua and Anne and David went to the race.\u00a0 During the race, of course, they ran into Dan and Amy, our lunch friends and co-alumni from The International House of Languages.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/uhlfelder.com\/blog\/imagesblog\/ElCorteInglesrace\/index.html\">Here are photos<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><u>May 19, 2008<\/u>.\u00a0\u00a0 Nothing to report.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><u>May 20, 2008<\/u>.\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/uhlfelder.com\/blog\/imagesblog\/lunch-5-08\/index.html\">Lunch with Dan and Amy<\/a> and haircut day for David and Joshua and Rocket.\u00a0 All four men in the Uhlfelder family got haircuts (mine was last week).\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/uhlfelder.com\/blog\/imagesblog\/haircuts\/index.html\">Photo here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>May 14, 2008.\u00a0 Back from Mallorca and we have about five weeks before we&#8217;re going to be home.\u00a0 I thought I might get a boat captain&#8217;s license, checked it out at the Escuela and it&#8217;s not possible.\u00a0\u00a0 There is a lot to it and not enough time.
